PlantParentPlaylist ("we", "us") is a science-backed music platform for plant parents, operated by Mad Collectives. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We try to collect as little as possible.
1. What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email (and name) | Waitlist sign-ups | To send you the updates you asked for |
| Account details: email, display name, username | If you create a community account | To run your account and garden |
| Plant entries, journal notes, growth photos, mood, height | When you use My Garden | To show your garden and power the research dashboard |
| Listening events (which playlist/platform you opened) | When you tap a streaming button while signed in | To improve playlist matching and aggregate research |
| Usage & device data (pages, approximate region, browser) | Automatically | Analytics and security |
We do not currently process payments or ask for card details. If we add paid products in future, payments will be handled by a PCI-compliant processor (such as Stripe) and we will never store full card numbers.
2. How we use it
- To provide and operate the site, accounts, and the community platform.
- To email you updates you asked for (waitlist, pre-order, account).
- To improve the product and understand what's useful.
- To build an aggregated, anonymous dataset on music and plant growth (see below).
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't run advertising trackers.
3. Who processes your data
We use trusted providers as data processors:
- Vercel — hosting.
- Google Analytics — anonymous usage analytics (cookies; see our Cookie Policy).
- Supabase — accounts, database and photo storage for the community platform.
- Formspree — waitlist and pre-order form delivery.
- Stripe — payment processing (when pre-order payments go live).
- iNaturalist and Hugging Face — plant identification. If you search a species or upload a photo to identify it, that query/photo is sent to these services to return a match.
4. Citizen science
If you opt in as a citizen researcher, the growth data you log (species, playlist, mood, anonymised photos and measurements) may be combined into aggregate, anonymised datasets used for research on music and plant health. Aggregated data cannot identify you or your individual plants. You can opt out by making your profile or plants private, or by deleting your account.
5. Your rights & choices
- Access, correct or delete your data — email us and we'll help.
- Delete your account at any time; this removes your profile, plants and journal entries.
- Opt out of analytics via your browser or the Google Analytics opt-out.
- Unsubscribe from any email using the link in it.
Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights such as data portability or objection. Contact us to exercise them.
6. Retention, security, children & transfers
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, then delete or anonymise it. We use reasonable safeguards (encryption in transit, access controls) but no method is 100% secure. The service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where required), and we don't knowingly collect their data. Your data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
7. Changes
We'll update this page and the "last updated" date when this policy changes.
